The most wonderful time of the year

I have so many great ideas and cute things I've seen and want to try out in sugar this time of year. Alas...time doesn't always allow. I was able to do quite a few Holiday cookies and cupcakes this past week...and I still have a few more days until Christmas! Hopefully, I can fit more cookies in.

Penguin cookies (thanks Sugar Belle for the inspiration!)

December is also my Middle Son's Birthday month...my little Christmas present. : ) I was THRILLED that he didn't ask for a Star Wars cake again. This would have been the 3rd year in a row! Instead, his new obsession... sharks!

Great news all around!

Wow! So many things to update since I last posted back in July. First and Foremost....A Piece of Cake is now open for Business as of September 1st! Earlier this year, I got to go to the capital, along with many other Texas home bakers to attend the "Baker's Bill" hearing. We wanted to come out of the pantry, and be able to sell our baked goods out of our home kitchens. Kelly Masters led the movement, and thanks to her and many other devoted Texas bakers...we are now legal! ( that was the short and sweet version of the story...there was much blood , sweat and tears put into legalizing home bakers in Texas! It was a very long road, and almost didn't happen. I am very thankful and appreciative that it did! )
Another bit of good news... we just had the first ever Permian Basin Cake and Sugar Art show. I won First place on all three of my entries. Woot woot! There is SO much local talent in our area...and I can't wait to see what everyone brings to the table for next years show! Here is my Entry for Novelty tiered cake:

This years theme was "Deep in the Heart of Texas", so I                             entered some of my Texas cookies.

This little Penguin cake was for my youngest Son's 4th Birthday. My boy is OBSESSED with penguins! I also recreated it , and entered it into the sculpting division of the cake show.

And now just some randoms from the last few months:
