Great news all around!

Wow! So many things to update since I last posted back in July. First and Foremost....A Piece of Cake is now open for Business as of September 1st! Earlier this year, I got to go to the capital, along with many other Texas home bakers to attend the "Baker's Bill" hearing. We wanted to come out of the pantry, and be able to sell our baked goods out of our home kitchens. Kelly Masters led the movement, and thanks to her and many other devoted Texas bakers...we are now legal! ( that was the short and sweet version of the story...there was much blood , sweat and tears put into legalizing home bakers in Texas! It was a very long road, and almost didn't happen. I am very thankful and appreciative that it did! )
Another bit of good news... we just had the first ever Permian Basin Cake and Sugar Art show. I won First place on all three of my entries. Woot woot! There is SO much local talent in our area...and I can't wait to see what everyone brings to the table for next years show! Here is my Entry for Novelty tiered cake:

Modern ombre ruffle cake

This years theme was "Deep in the Heart of Texas", so I entered some of my Texas cookies.

This little Penguin cake was for my youngest Son's 4th Birthday. My boy is OBSESSED with penguins! I also recreated it , and entered it into the sculpting division of the cake show.

And now just some randoms from the last few months:

SugarSlam 2011!

There is a blog I follow and love called Bake and destroy http://bakeanddestroy.net/. Well...Natalie Slater from Bake and Destroy has an online wrestling theme baking contest called Sugarslam. I was so excited to enter! Not being much of a wrestling fan..I had to do some research. I decided to make The One Man Band chocolate cake with Heath Bar filling. Heath Slater's signature move is the FlapJack...so I made a "flap cake" cake with a gum paste figure of Heath Slater. My second entry was Triple H, Triple layer, Triple Chocolate cake with a gum paste figure of Triple H. Viewers choice is going on NOW until Friday,so feel free to go on over to Bake and Destroy and vote!

And now to do some catching up from the past month:

A cake for our local Mom's group's Eggtastic Bash
Easter cake with fondant Bunny
 Tangled cakes with purchased toppers
  Hanna Montana Birthday cake

Rosette cake- I could NOT wait to try this cake after seeing the tutorial on I am Baker! Such a simple, easy cake...but it turns out so cool! I love it and will for sure be making more in the future. This one was for my Dad's Birthday. A little feminine...but as long as it had red velvet on the inside....he didn't care : )
Another cake I got to make for my family. This one was driven 10 hours in my Dad and Step Mom's car, to my Sister for her 40th Birthday! It made it in one piece! This was my first attempt at Quilling. It's such an awesome technique...I can't wait to try it on another cake
